About Green Electricity Marketplace

GEM was formed in 2000. With the liberalisation of the UK electricity market and the growth in renewable energy it was felt that a website which could list and analyse available green tariffs would encourage uptake of these tariffs and help to promote renewable energy.

Unlike most other switching sites for green electricity tariffs, GEM is not part of a general switching site, and as a specialist in renewable energy provides its own perspective on green tariffs.

The website has been widely recognised for the information it provides: by environment groups including Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth; by consumer groups including the National Consumer Council; by businesses like Samsung UK; and by the media including BBC Newsnight and The Independent.

In order to demonstrate the independence of our tariff ratings, GEM no longer accepts referral fees from suppliers.

GEM’s Privacy policy

Green Electricity Marketplace doesn't collect personal information during the sign-up process. If you want to switch to a new supplier you will be directed to their website and all sign-up information will be submitted directly to the supplier on their website.

Green Electricity Marketplace (GEM) no longer accepts referral fees from electricity suppliers. It is not associated with any general switching site and is committed to promoting renewable electricity through the provision of information and independent assessment of Green electricity tariffs.

We aim to provide accurate and up-to-date pricing, but given the volatility of the electricity market, please confirm current pricing with your chosen supplier.
